Ok, another week of Proverbs! I am kinda excited to continue on! So, let us get started! Today's topics include more warning from the adulterous woman, being an ant, and more!Today's topics come from Proverbs 5-8
Proverbs 5: 3,6, & 21: Staying away from Adultery
(3)For the lips of the adulterous woman drip honey,
and her speech is smoother than oil;
(6)She gives no thought to the way of life;
her paths wander aimlessly, but she does not know it.
(21)For your wars are in full view of the LORD,
and he examines all your paths.
No one said that resisting temptations is easy, but it is ever so important! In verse 3, we see that she is cunning and doesn't make the temptation any easier. Her paths will lead nowhere; she will not lead you to good. We must always keep in my mind that the LORD sees everything we do, all day, err day, 24/7. That is always a good reminder to have because then we feel guilty and we end up staying away from the temptation! Always a good wake up call! Just remember that HE is watching always, not wanting us to fall into temptation.
Proverbs 6:6, 16-19, 20
(6) Go to the ant, you sluggard;
consider its ways and be wise!
(16-19) There are six things the LORD hates,
seven that are detestable to him
haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that are quick to rush into evil,
a false witness who pours out lies,
and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
(20) My son, keep your father's command
and do not forsake your mother's teaching.
I really really like this chapter! I think there are so many important lessons here! For example, verse 6! I know it is summer, but does that mean we shouldn't be proactive? No, we do not have an excuse for being lazy. Let's look at the ant! The ant doesn't really rest; it works so hard every day to make sure it has enough food. And then it gets stepped on... OK, sorry. haha. These 7 things that God hates, we should, obviously, not do them, but that is easier said than done... but definitely is something we need to strive for. And lastly, we see a very important verse! If verse 20 is repeated this much, shouldn't that mean something?
Proverbs 7:4-5 & 25
(4-5) Say to wisdom, "You are my sister,"
and to insight, "You are my relative."
They will keep you from the adulterous woman,
from the wayward woman with her seductive words.
(25) Do not let your heart turn to her ways
or stray into her paths.
It is important to have both wisdom and insight because they are necessary in order to help stay away from the adulterous woman. Also an important part is a good heart, if you have a good heart and a healthy heart, it will be easier to ward off temptations.
